Undergraduate Research
UnB undergraduates from any program
First door for undergraduates who want to start researching.
- 1 Read CEDIS's areas of expertise and pick 2 or 3 that match your interest.
- 2 Find the responsible researcher(s) and send a short email explaining your interest.
- 3 Watch for PIBIC/PIBIT calls (March-April) and voluntary openings throughout the year.
- 4 If selected, you join meetings, write a report, and present at the UnB Undergraduate Research Congress.
Undergraduate Thesis
Software Engineering students (UnB Gama)
Write your undergraduate thesis linked to active CEDIS projects.
- 1 Check the list of topics with CEDIS researchers in TCC1.
- 2 Schedule a talk with the advisor to align scope, feasibility, and timeline.
- 3 Formalize the supervision in the coordination system and plan deliverables with clear milestones.
- 4 Notable work turns into conference papers or book chapters.
Master's — PPCA
Graduates in computing or related areas
Professional Master's in Applied Computing focused on applied research and technological output.
- 1 Check the annual PPCA/UnB call (usually open in the second semester).
- 2 Identify a CEDIS supervisor with aligned research and talk before applying.
- 3 Prepare the pre-project observing registered research lines and openings per supervisor.
- 4 Once accepted, you enter a 24-month program with applied dissertation and technical artifact.
PhD — PPCA
Master's degree holders with consolidated research
PhD in Applied Computing — scientific depth with applied impact.
- 1 Study CEDIS groups and topics before deciding whom to reach out to.
- 2 Send an initial email to the potential supervisor with pre-project, CV, and timeline.
- 3 If aligned, formalize the application through PPCA/UnB.
- 4 The PhD has a strong component of publication, teaching, and international collaboration.
Outreach
Students, staff, and external community
Join programs like Software for Good bringing software engineering to real social demands.
- 1 Check outreach calls at /oportunidades/.
- 2 Programs like Software for Good accept students and volunteers with technical or management profiles.
- 3 Registered outreach generates official declaration and complementary hours.
CEDIS Volunteer
Interested people outside formal programs
You don't have to be enrolled in a program to contribute. Volunteering opens the door.
- 1 Choose a project (Contextus, Evidentia, OctaAnalysis, DFCris, Green SD, Canal Ciência, etc.).
- 2 Email the responsible researcher explaining your interest and what you can offer.
- 3 If accepted, join meetings, gain repository access, and receive a declaration at the end.
- 4 Volunteering is the most common path to later apply for a scholarship or master's spot.
