TROPA: an undergraduate thesis designs software to orchestrate airsoft operations

Airsoft, a tactical simulation sport, has been growing steadily in Brazil. With growth comes the — usually overlooked — need for instrumentation for matches: team assignments, position maps, timing, objective bookkeeping. This niche is what the undergraduate thesis defended in July 2025 by Erick Giffoni Felicissimo fills with a dedicated software: TROPA — Airsoft Theater of Operations, under the advising of Prof. Daniel Sundfeld Lima .
The work is not only a product: it is a full-cycle software design exercise. The author elicits requirements from the playing community, designs an architecture that answers to mobile and offline use, and implements features conceived to operate in field conditions — including unstable connectivity. By pairing software architecture with a niche domain, the thesis illustrates a recurring truth: small communities produce requirements only insiders can discover.
The result is software with real adoption potential, delivered to the community that inspired it. It is the kind of work that closes a virtuous loop between university and practice, without needing outside investors to justify itself.
