Improving the requirements process: an undergraduate thesis brings rigor to development's most volatile cycle

Requirements are the part of development where certainties fall the fastest. Even so, the stage is usually designed as if it were stable — with rigid processes that practice takes apart in the first week. This mismatch is what the undergraduate thesis defended in December 2023 by Giulia Lobo Barros puts in focus, advised by Prof. Cristiane Soares Ramos with co-advising by Prof. Ricardo Ajax Dias Kosloski .
The work does not start from the assumption that “the problem is the team”; it starts from the hypothesis that the requirements engineering process itself needs to evolve. The author investigates factors that make operation difficult in real situations and proposes interventions that preserve rigor without suffocating responsiveness to change — the field’s most delicate compromise.
Anchored in requirements engineering , the thesis contributes to a discussion the Brazilian community needs to have more often: how real teams under real deadlines keep formal processes standing without turning them into ritual.
