Labor law in your pocket: a PWA brings legal flowcharts to mobile devices
João Pedro Alves Machado and Júlio César Martins França defended at FCTE/UnB an undergraduate thesis building a Progressive Web App to navigate legal-education flowcharts on labor rights.

Brasília, October 28, 2024
Labor law is the field in which ordinary citizens most often need to navigate without professional help — and the field in which the language helps them the least. This imbalance is what the undergraduate thesis defended in October 2024 by João Pedro Alves Machado and Júlio César Martins França addresses, under the advising of Prof. André Luiz Peron Martins Lanna .
The duo builds a Progressive Web App (PWA) — behaving like a native app while running through the browser — to bring interactive legal flowcharts to users’ phones. Organized as chained questions, the flows guide citizens through labor-law logic without demanding prior fluency in jargon. The PWA choice is both technical and political: no app store installation, offline support, low storage footprint — three attributes that matter when the target audience is diverse and often underserved by bandwidth.
By pairing software architecture with digital transformation of access to justice, the thesis extends a project also targeted by another 2024 CEDIS work (by Guilherme Vial and Lucas Xavier) — evidence of a research line that spans duos and reinforces one another.
