SAMI: an undergraduate thesis creates a system to analyze learning metrics
João Vitor de Moura Rosa Silva defended at FCTE/UnB an undergraduate thesis building SAMI — a system for analyzing learning indicator metrics in active-methodology courses.

Brasília, February 14, 2023
An active-methodology course generates a lot of data — not always organized. Participation records, partial grades, group deliveries, pre-class reading activities: each piece produces signal, and they are almost never looked at together. The undergraduate thesis defended in February 2023 by João Vitor de Moura Rosa Silva builds a system to turn that noise into agenda, under the advising of Prof. Sergio Antônio Andrade de Freitas .
SAMI — System for Analyzing Indicator Metrics — is the piece running through the thesis. Its promise is to make visible the indicators that the daily operation of active-methodology courses naturally produces and that tend to get lost for lack of instrument. The work does not aim to reinvent educational metrics: it proposes a path so that those already discussed in the literature gain practical support in a real classroom setting.
Operating at the crossing of Learning Analytics and Gamification , SAMI joins a set of works accumulating at CEDIS over recent years — evidence of a consistent research line on how to instrument teaching without bureaucratizing it.
