Reading what's already logged: an undergraduate thesis proposes planning process improvements from issues

Where do process improvement opportunities live in a development workflow? In many organizations, they sit silently in the trail of bugs, complaints, and questions logged in issue-tracking tools — data rarely looked at systematically. This underused archive is what Sannya Santana de Arvelos places at the center of the undergraduate thesis defended in December 2020 at FCTE/UnB, advised by Prof. Cristiane Soares Ramos .
The work departs from the premise that improving the quality of a software product requires instruments — not intuition. Systematic analysis of issues (recurrence patterns, defect categories, phase-level bottlenecks) allows mapping where the process is paying the highest price. From there, the author proposes an approach to convert that map into an action plan: interventions targeting the heaviest causes, with metrics to verify that the change is working.
The work speaks to software quality and requirements engineering — showing that existing data can answer questions most teams still address by intuition.
