Brasilia, February 19, 2026
The Contextus software received a computer program registration certificate granted by the Brazilian National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI). The certificate was issued on February 18, 2026, under process BR512026000889-1.
The system was developed by Sergio Antonio Andrade de Freitas, Andre Correa da Silva, Milena de Faria Silva, and Renan Carneiro Batista. According to the certificate, the registration was filed with the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (Ibict) as the rights holder.
Contextus is a software platform focused on the treatment, organization, and analysis of informational and scientific data, with applications in information science, data science, and computational text analysis. Developed with Python and R, the system integrates data processing and analysis methods to support bibliometric studies, text corpus analysis, and the exploration of large volumes of scientific information.
Its potential applications include support for scientific production analysis, pattern identification in documentary databases, and research that uses data science and natural language processing techniques. These capabilities allow users to explore relationships among documents, themes, and informational indicators in different research contexts. The software can be explored on the Contextus page on CEDIS and at https://contextus.ibict.br/.
The formal recognition of the software helps strengthen technological development and applied research initiatives focused on the analysis of scientific information and the production of computational tools for academic investigation. The registration also secures legal protection for the software for 50 years, as established by Law No. 9.609/1998.
