INPI grants software registration for the Requirements Engineering Chatbot

The Requirements Engineering Chatbot software received a computer program registration certificate granted by the Brazilian National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) under process BR512026003514-7, published in the Industrial Property Gazette (RPI) No. 2889, dated May 19, 2026.

The product was developed by Fause Carlos Mascarenhas Lustosa Junior and Pedro Henrique Muniz de Oliveira, under the supervision of Prof. George Marsicano Corrêa , within the Super-R project . The registration was granted with Fundação Universidade de Brasília (UnB) as the rights holder.

The software investigates how chatbots based on natural language models (LLMs) can support Requirements Engineering, conducting structured interviews with stakeholders to elicit, clarify, and formalize requirements. As output, it automatically generates user stories, allows validation and correction during the conversation, and exports the results as a spreadsheet (.xlsx).

Applicable in public and private organizations that need to gather requirements from multiple parties, the solution addresses recurring problems of communication failure, ambiguity, and low standardization in requirements documentation, reducing manual effort and rework. It differentiates itself from tools based on traditional NLP by using LLMs to adapt questions to context, detect ambiguities, and automatically generate user stories. The INPI registration secures legal protection of the computer program for 50 years, as established by Law No. 9.609/1998, expanding CEDIS’s protected portfolio started with the Contextus registration.
