Privacy policy of the Eu Me Protejo — Cartilha application, an educational and gamified app for children.

Eu Me Protejo – Cartilha is an educational, gamified application for children, based on the educational materials of the Eu Me Protejo project.

The application aims to support educational activities for child protection through playful content and gamification features.

1. Protection of children’s privacy

Because the application is intended for children, its design adopts the minimisation of information collection as a principle.

The application does not require the child to provide personal information such as full name, address, telephone number, e-mail or location in order to access the educational content.

2. Information used by the application

The application may retain information required for the gamified experience to work, such as:

  • a local identifier or nickname used in the application, where applicable;
  • the selected avatar;
  • progress through the activities;
  • scores, rewards and achievements;
  • preferences related to the use of the application.

This information is used exclusively to operate the activities and the personalisation and gamification features. It is not to be used to directly identify the child outside the context of the application.

3. Storage of information

All information generated by use of the application (such as nickname, avatar and progress) is stored exclusively on the device itself, in its internal database (offline).

The application has no integration with external servers, APIs, cloud databases or remote synchronisation systems. No user data is transmitted off the device. The application does not use this information to build advertising profiles or to trade in personal data.

4. Data that is not requested

For the educational activities to work, the application does not require:

  • home address;
  • telephone number;
  • precise location;
  • contact list;
  • personal photographs;
  • audio or video recordings.

5. Advertising

The application does not display advertising.

6. Sharing

Those responsible for the application do not sell users’ personal information.

Information retained by the application to enable progress, personalisation and gamification is not intended for public sharing among users.

7. Permissions

The application seeks to limit the permissions requested on the device to those strictly necessary for its features to work.

Access to location, contacts, camera or microphone is not required in order to reach the educational content, unless a future version introduces a feature that genuinely needs those resources.

8. Academic research

During the research project that originated the application, evaluations were carried out with children and educators, including the use of research instruments and observation of how children interacted with the app.

The data obtained in those evaluations belongs to the academic research context and does not represent automatic collection performed by the application distributed through Google Play.

9. Rights and deletion of information

While personalisation and progress information is stored only on the device, it can be eliminated by clearing the application’s data or uninstalling it, using the facilities provided by Android.

Should future versions come to maintain accounts or information on external servers, appropriate mechanisms for accessing and deleting that information will be made available.

10. Third-party services

Should third-party components or services necessary for the application to work be used, they will be assessed for suitability for a child audience and for compliance with the applicable Google Play requirements.

This policy will be updated if those services come to process user data.

11. Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated as the application evolves, in response to legal changes or to requirements of the distribution platforms.
