Product Description

FCTE Student Support is a technological product recorded in 2025 in the Lattes CV of Prof. George Marsicano Corrêa . The software is a virtual assistant on Telegram that centralizes and streamlines access to administrative and academic information at the School of Sciences and Engineering Technologies (FCTE/UnB), answering questions in natural language in a humanized, fast, and contextualized way.

INPI Registration

In 2026, the software received a computer program registration certificate granted by INPI under process BR512026003515-5. The registration secures legal protection for 50 years, as established by Law No. 9.609/1998, and reinforces the institutional recognition of the technological output associated with the Artificial intelligence and data analysis for digital transformation project. More details are available in the news item about the registration .

Main Function and Technology

The chatbot uses AI with a RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) approach supported by a vector knowledge base to retrieve relevant content and generate more accurate responses. The central goal is to reduce dependence on in-person service and the registrar’s office, increase student autonomy, and shorten the time to find essential information (enrollment, internships, SIGAA, hours crediting, etc.).

Institutional Context and Differentiators

The project starts from the recurring problem that students face difficulty accessing essential information through institutional channels, with navigation, update, and organization failures — leading to frustration and reducing the efficiency of informational support. The chatbot proposes itself as a single, accessible channel for consuming this information. Compared with static systems, confusing forms, and long searches on SIGAA, the product offers a simple, accessible, and personalized conversational experience, with optional handoff to a human. In user evaluations, the chatbot was rated more functional and intuitive than the official portal.

Future Directions

Long-term validation across full semesters, integration with official systems (SIGAA/UnB website) for real-time responses, personalization by degree program, automated academic deadline reminders, multimodal accessibility (voice, Libras), and expansion to other units and institutions. Planned improvements also include response flow adjustments, expanded knowledge base, and refined conversational experience in cases of error or slowdown.
