Project Description

Atloria is a mobile educational application that uses augmented reality and gamification to support the teaching and learning of data structures. The product was developed by Geovanna Maciel Avelino da Costa and Mylena Angélica Silva Farias as a bachelor’s thesis under the supervision of Prof. Sergio Freitas , with academic support from the Center for Studies, Development, and Innovation in Software (CEDIS) and the L-VIS Laboratory.

The application was developed for Android devices, integrating Flutter, SQLite, Unity, and AR Foundation, and organizes learning as a gamified journey in which users interact with visual representations of data structures such as stacks, queues, and linked lists, tracking their progress through symbolic rewards and performance records.

Project Objectives

The main objectives of the project are:

  • to support the teaching and learning of data structures through visual and interactive augmented reality resources;
  • to make the study of abstract concepts, such as insertion, removal, and search operations, more concrete and motivating;
  • to encourage continuous engagement through gamification elements, such as narratives, mini missions, and an achievement passport; and
  • to provide an experimental basis for teaching, research, and outreach initiatives supported by CEDIS in gamification and active learning.

Resources and Features

Among the features offered by Atloria are authentication, guided onboarding, themed rooms organized by continents and colors, narratives associated with each data structure, and mini missions with immediate feedback. With each achievement, users receive stamps and badges that make up their achievement passport, including micro-stamps corresponding to easter eggs scattered throughout the journey.

The application also offers interactive augmented reality visualization of the structures covered, allowing students to manipulate physical markers and observe, in real time, the effect of operations such as insertion and removal on stacks, queues, and linked lists.
