OctaAnalysis Project

Overview

The OctaAnalysis Project is an ongoing initiative at CEDIS/UnB dedicated to the research, development, and continuous validation of approaches for gamification and learning analytics in educational and collaborative contexts. Its purpose is not simply to maintain an already published platform, but to investigate, test, and evolve experience-design models, monitoring strategies, indicators, and analytical mechanisms that can improve this kind of environment over time.

The main current outcome of that effort is the digital product OctaAnalysis , already publicly available. In other words, this page describes the ongoing research and development project, while the product page describes the platform that has already been delivered for use.

Project Nature

The project works as a continuous research and technology-evolution front for gamified experiences. Within it, CEDIS structures hypotheses, evaluates models inspired by the Octalysis framework, refines monitoring strategies, and explores ways to turn interaction data into evidence that supports pedagogical, managerial, and analytical decisions.

For that reason, the project should be understood as the research-and-development umbrella that guides new capabilities, experiments, methodological refinements, and product-evolution decisions.

Objectives

The project has the following main objectives:

  • to design and evolve a digital infrastructure for the planning, management, and analysis of gamified learning and collaboration experiences;
  • to investigate engagement, participation, motivation, and performance indicators based on usage data and longitudinal monitoring;
  • to experiment with analytical visualizations, radar-based evaluations, snapshots, and lifecycle monitoring mechanisms; and
  • to turn real needs from educators, researchers, and managers into continuous improvements for a platform applicable in academic and institutional settings.

Development Front

Within the project, CEDIS has been developing and refining fronts such as:

  • organization of classes, enrollments, teams, projects, meetings, and communication flows;
  • structuring of questionnaires, monitoring instruments, and historical interaction records;
  • radar-based evaluations, progress snapshots, dashboards, and analytical views to interpret behavior and evolution; and
  • administrative mechanisms, access roles, and workflows oriented toward coordination and privacy.

These fronts represent ongoing lines of work within the project. Part of them is already materialized in the product available today, while part remains under continuous refinement as the project advances.
